Modern Day Iconium
Early in Paul’s ministry he entered the city of Iconium to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, only to face disbelief and resentment. Paul responded by speaking “boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace (Acts 14:3).” As a result of Paul’s reliance upon the Lord people were saved and became disciples (Acts 14:21-23).
The gospel is desperately needed in the state of Washington. Some have heard the gospel and set their hearts against it, but many more have never really understood it. There is a great need for Christians to proclaim the gospel, fully relying upon the Lord to build a church community.
Throughout the New Testament, Christians are encouraged to live in fellowship with other Christians. God never meant for us to live in isolation from one another. The earliest Christians were devoted to each other (Acts 2:42), served one another (Galatians 5:13), and encouraged one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11). When people discover the gospel, it unites them in a way that nothing else can. This is the type of community we desire for the Tri-Cities.
